2013: Getting to the Conference

The LIU Post Campus of Long Island University is easily accessible via car, train, or bus.

By Car:
You can put the address into your GPS/Google maps and get directions that way: 720 Northern Blvd, Brookville, New York 11548

Or you can visit the  LIU Post Campus of Long Island University directions page.

By Train/Bus:
1. From Penn Station, you would take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to the Hicksville station. [Note: Hicksville is on the Port Jefferson line, but some Ronkonkoma line trains stop there too! Check out the schedule at mta.info/lirr.  From the Hicksville train station, you can either take a taxi to LIU Post, or you can hop on the Long Island NICE Bus N20.  The N20 drops you off on the LIU Post Campus of Long Island University. [View the NICE schedule here]  A taxi from Hicksville costs anywhere from $13.50 to $25 depending on which taxi company you get.

2. From Penn Station, you would take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to the Great Neck Station, on the Port Washington line. From here you can get on the N20 bus towards Hicksville, and be dropped off at the LIU Post campus.

3. From Penn Station, you would take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to Jamaica station, where you would transfer to the Oyster Bay Line. Take the Oyster Bay Line to the Greenvale station. From Greenvale, you can take a taxi to the LIU Post Campus of Long Island University. There is no bus service from this station. Arena Taxi (516-671-1848) will get you to LIU Post for around $13.
Pro-Tip: When buying LIRR tickets, check to see if you are on a Peak train or an Off-Peak train. Westbound Peak trains are from 6am to 10am weekdays, Eastbound Peak trains are from 4pm to 8pm weekdays. Peak tickets cost more than Off-Peak tickets, and buying tickets on board the train costs more than buying tickets in the station.

Call Arena Taxi at 516-671-1848 for information regarding service and rates from Greenvale. Call Oyster Rides Taxi at 516-922-2222, or Yellow Cab at 516-931-1111 for information regarding service and rates from the Hicksville train station.

By Plane:
1. From JFK you can take the AirTrain to the LIRR Jamaica Station. From Jamaica, board a train to Hicksville, and get the N20 bus to LIU Post Campus of Long Island University.

2. From LaGuardia to the Q48 bus towards Flushing to the Roosevelt Ave/Main Street stop. Walk half a block east on Roosevelt Ave to the N20 bus stop.  Take the N20 bus towards Hicksville to LIU Post.

3. From Newark Liberty, take the NJ Transit from the Newark Airport Railroad Station to Penn Station New York. Once you are in Penn Station, follow the above directions for the LIRR.  For more information check out Newark’s page on Public Transportation.

  1. I telephoned the Oyster Ride cab. They have a taxi stand at the Hicksville station. Cost to LIU is $20.00. I did not check the Yellow Cab. Information: Cab sharing is common on Long Island. If two or more people arrive at the same time, you will definitely share the cab. Agree to split the fare with your colleagues (beforehand) and save some money. Don't decide after you arrive at the destination, the cabbie will get mad.

    1. I agree sharing a cab would be the best thing to do. If we can set-up a share service that can match up attendees with other individuals who are going to & from the LIRR station at similar times that be perfect. Anyone have ideas as to how we can do this? Cheers, Anonymous #2

    2. The LiRR tells me that I will be in Hicksville at either 8:26 or 8:39 am so I hope to see you Archivist there so that we might share a cab. We'll know who we are.

  2. Looking at the LIRR schedule from Penn Station to Hicksville, it looks like there is a train that arrives in Hicksville at 8:26am (cutting it close!) and the earlier train arrives at 6:48am (kind of early). Are there really no LIRR trains in between those 2 times? Would it be advisable to take the 7 subway line to Flushing and the NICE20 from there? Thanks.

    1. There is a LIRR train from Penn to Great Neck that arrives at 7:33am, and the N20 NICE bus also picks up from there.

I've never taken the subway to the bus, so I can't speak from experience, but maybe someone else can?

    2. Also keep in mind that the current LIRR schedule expires on May 19th. So it might change a little between now and June 5th.

    3. Thanks, Kristine! I'll look into that Great Neck train.

  3. The bus schedule times rarely changes in Nassau. Check the N20 bus schedule on NICE for the latest bus information. Nassau buses accepts Metro cards and coins, no dollar bills.

  4. Is there any restriction on parking? The SAA workshop letter says "any legal spot," but the CW Post website says that visitor registration is required.

    1. There is no parking registration. Just park legally, in marked spots.
